United States prosecutors are seeking to prevent Sam Bankman-Fried’s legal team from discussing the potential recovery of FTX customer assets invested in Anthropic during his trial. Bankman-Fried invested $500 million in Anthropic in April 2022, but the U.S. government alleges that these funds were obtained unlawfully from FTX customer deposits. Despite recent reports indicating that Anthropic is seeking substantial investments and could be valued between $20 billion and $30 billion, prosecutors argue that this information is not relevant to the case.
Bankman-Fried’s team intends to present evidence about the current value of his $500 million investment in Anthropic, possibly to argue that FTX customers and victims will be fully compensated for their losses. However, prosecutors contend that such evidence is irrelevant and could be prejudicial confusing, or misleading to the jury.
